How To Secure Saved Passwords In Google Chrome !!

Some of us may think that the saved passwords are squirreled away and it is impossible for any one to dig. In fact some of the browsers provide the opportunity to secure saved passwords with a master password.However in chrome it is a piece of cake to reveal the saved passwords. Any one who has access to your system can view all of your saved passwords in the plain text by visiting chrome://settings/passwords and clicking the small 'show' button next to the hidden password. If you are one of them who save their passwords in chrome then you are extremely vulnerable but Luckily it is possible to secure your saved passwords with a small tweak in google chrome.

Prerequisities :
  • Make sure that you are using the latest version of chrome. Go to Chrome menu -> About Google chrome. If you see the message 'Google Chrome is up to date', its good to go. If it is showing the update message, update your browser first by following the on screen instructions
  • Make sure you are using a local account in your windows/mac and a windows/mac login password.

  Tweak To Secure Your Saved Passwords In Chrome:

  1. Type chrome://flags in the address bar and hit enter. Scroll down untill you find the Disable Password Manager Re-authentication. This setting is disabled by default. Enable it by clicking the Enable link.

  2. Now you have enabled the double authentication to view saved passwords. Now Type chrome://settings/passwords in the address or alternatively, Go to Chrome menu -> Settings -> Show advanced settings -> passwords and forms -> manage saved passwords. Now when anyone tries to view your saved passwords by clicking the show button. He will be asked to enter the master password first, which is actually your windows/mac login password.
